Rwanda

Try to imagine a place where tribal warfare is o common that 1,000,000 of a total population of 8,000,000 die in 100 days. Picture people having to carry around ethnic idenification cards that decide whether you live or die. Visualize those 1,000,000 people dying, not from gunshots, but rather from machete slashes. Think of a country that is so poor that no other nation wants to help them.
The Middle East and Hezbollah        

The Hezbollah or Party of God is Lebanon's biggest and most popular political party. Hezbollah is a home-grown organization made up of patriots seeking self determination and political equality. It is committed to liberating Lebanon from Israeli occupation. The Hezbollah platform is based on the fact that no peace can be achieved while Israel continues to occupy Southern Lebanon and does not adhere to international laws.
        Northern Ireland and the IRA

The IRA is committed unequivocally to the search for freedom, justice, and peace in Ireland. Their objective is to end British rule in Northern Ireland and seek unity throughout all of Ireland. The IRA's vision is for the redistribution of wealth, the well being of age, advancement of youth, liberation of women, and the protection of children. Although historically violent in their realization of these goals, their ultimate vision is one of peace.
Terrorism in the United States        
Contemporary rural radicalism has received abundant attention in periodicals and newspapers since the late 1980's and particularly since the Ruby Rige incident in 1992, the deaths of the Branch Davidians in Waco, Texas, and the April 19, 1995, bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma. Rural Radicals traces the history of the extremist involvement in the United States including anti-federalism, white supremacy, populism, and vigilantism and reveals how these themes have been dealt with in view of private and public interests.

Throughout each of the four books that this class has discussed, there have been deep connections to The United Nations. What they do and how they go about it have often come into question.
